You are an experienced mountaineer, or prefer easy hikes or maybe you are looking for a real challenge? Hochkössen resort offers nature trails for the whole family and demanding summit hikes. So, everyone will find their favourite route at Hochkössen resort!

Take Kössen cable car to enjoy a comfortable and relaxed ride up the mountain. The mountain station is the starting point for a great number of routes on Unterberg mountain, high above Kössen. Discover the most beautiful hikes now!

Panorama tour at Unterberg

  • duration: approx. 1.5 hrs.
  • difficulty: easy

Enjoy the highlights of panorama tour such as idyllic mountain scenery and unmatched views from the summit hut. You hike at 1,700m a.s.l. The view of  the lakes Walchsee and Chiemsee and the summits of Hohe Tauern and Wilder Kaiser is breathtaking. It is a dream!

Route: the route from the gondola mountain station descends smoothly to Unterberghorn. You reach your destination near the summit: summit hut at 1,680 m in elevation. After a hearty snack at the inn follow the route along the summit lift trail to Bärenhütte. From here you either take the gondola or you walk down to the valley.

Loop Hike

  • duration: approx. 2 hrs.
  • difficulty: intermediate

Unterberg tour invites you to inhale fresh alpine air, recharge your batteries and enjoy the marvellous countryside! Make a nice relaxing stop at Bärenhütte and discover the dreamlike panorama from up there.

Route: start at the cable car mountain station. Hike along Talwanderroute (valley hike route) to the branch-off "Rundweg". This steeper section leads along the panorama trail to the summit hut. From there you reach Bärenhutte. Take the gondola to get back to the valley.

Hiking tip: Unterberg tour down to the valley
You can start this tour in reverse order. It will take 3.5 hours, but its level of difficulty is easy. A logging trail leads down to Kössen.

Summit hike to Unterberghorn

  • duration: approx. 2,5 – 4 hrs. (depending on the route)
  • difficulty: difficult

Get up early in the morning, up to Unterberghorn and have a rustic snack at the summit cross with a wonderful panorama. This tour is the challenging highlight of all hikes. At the summit you will be rewarded with the most breathtaking views of the Tirolean mountains.

Route: starting at the mountain station the trail passes the summit hut and the leads to the summit at an altitude of 1,800 m. On the way back you pass Bärenhütte and finally arrive at the gondola.

If you are looking for a challenge, take the small trail to Lackalm in Niederhaustal valley. This tour takes four hours.

Hike down to the valley

  • duration: approx. 2.5 hrs.
  • difficulty: intermediate

Do you fancy a nice and easy-going hike down to the valley with a view of the Kaisergebirge region? This easy walk takes 2.5 hours and is suitable for pushchairs.

Route: The hike starts at the gondola mountain station. A broad logging trail leads down to the valley, offering nice views. The hike ends at the valley station. This hike can be shortened by taking the trail at the alpine pastures. 

Hiking tip: Hike down to Schwendt: If you follow the hike down to the valley you can also take the trail down to Schwendt. A logging road and a track lead to Lucknerhof restaurant and to Schwendt. This tour takes approximately three hours.
